Hey, I posted this question before and didn't get an answer. Is An airport used simply for providing a wireless network, or does it work as a modem to connect with an internet provider?
I'm in Japan and it's difficult for me to ask questions like this.

And PLEASE, do not cut and past from the Apple home page, I've already looked there, and if I was sure of what I had read, I wouldnt be asking here.

The Apple Airport Wireless Router. Is only a wireless router. It is not a modem. You will need to connect the WAN port on the Airport to the modem that is provided to you by your ISP (or the one you buy, depending on the ISP)

The airport is strictly a wireless adaptor and can not be used to connect to an ISP unless they have a very dense wireless node network around you and they provide you with the encryption key.

I have worked in IT for more than 10 years and the last 3 for a major ISP and I've never seen this kind of implementation done commercially.

So the realistic answer is probably a definite NO.

You'll need a router to broadcast the signal that will be picked up by your airport. That router could possibly have modem capacities or not; if not, you have to connect it to a modem.
