If the guy was 18 why should it matter?? Those who are conservative please don't try to spin it and say that this is just a liberal thing, if someone from the liberal side did the same thing the conservatives would be all over it. Why is it so easy to distract the American public? We should be focusing on issues such as terrorist and poverty and what to do about Iraq not about who this guy chose to sleep with.

Okay maybe I am not that informed on the situation. I'm just tired of hearing about both parties downing each other instead of focusing on the issues (not saying that pedophlia is not an issue) I Also stated before that republicans are guilty of the same things, so I can understand Liberals feeling the need to retailiate, and their furstration when republicans talk of taking the high road and stop pointing the finger when they're the ones doing most of the finger pointing.

didn't realize that the boy was 16 I was told that he was 18. Pedophilia is wrong, but it still doesn't take away from fact that our politicians are focusing on the wrong things, and how easily the America public is swayed.

You certainly aren't very well informed. Nor do you seem to be a particularly caring individual, since you are implying that it's okay for congressmen to molest children. Why watch the news if you don't even care?

Though I agree with you on a certain level, I do think it should be a priority to protect our children. I work at a high school with two girls whom served as pages and both have said it was common knowledge that Foley was a little too friendly with the pages. From what I understand, he was that one that strongly suggested all the pages wear green on St. Patty's day. The issue isn't that he's gay. It's that he is a pedophile. He used his position of authority to take advantage of young people. He's no better than these female teachers who've gotten lots of media attention as of late. It's easier to focus on Foley because it's tangible for us. We can fix it. We can't fix the Iraq, poverty, etc. Atleast not immediately. Besides, Americans love a good scandal!

In Washington, I'm thinking Foley must be an angel. If the Republicans are willing to cover up anything that is so opposite their professed views imagine what other dirty secrets Hastert must know.
I also understand that the age of consent in D.C. is 18. It's the only place I've heard of in the U.S. where strippers can get totally nude. Foley is small fry and a distraction from the really good dirt.

There is an election in four weeks.
Foley is a pervert, but he resigned. He apparently did nothing but IM sex. It was common knowledge he is a homo and liked young men.

There is speculation that Pages were messing with him cause he was Uncle Pervy and it was a fun thing to do.

There may be an investigation to find out who knew about the explicit messages and why was it not reported to police. Were democrats holding this info to create the scandal? Republicans knew he was creepy friendly but to do anything without proof against a gay would be politically detrimental.

This is another overblown media talking head news story. No one really cares, and it will not affect the election.

When it was first reported the guy was supposedly 16, then it changed to 17 and now maybe 18 AND there was no sex (not even Clintons version) it was on the computer. IF he was coming on to the kid and the kid didn't want it....he should be punished. But you are right, these elections should be about issues that affect us as a country. Unfortunately the media has a HUGE impact on what the population is talking about.

He was still taking advantage of the Page Program for his own gain. He should have maintained a professional working relationship with these students. Parents send their kids off to these kinds of programs thinking they will get some great experience, not have to fend off sexual advances. To make such advances in the type of position a congressman is in is an abuse of power. In that kind of situation, the person they are pursuing may not feel they have a choice.

Who told you the page was 18?
Drudgereport? Drudgereport had no facts or sources to back themselves up. Even the Republican-led investigations have shown he was 16. His name has just not been mentioned for privacy. His parents never testified that he was 18. Foley never did either. Foley admitted he was sexually interacting with a minor via the internet. Why can't you understand this?

The pages were underage when it happened. They were 16, not 18.
Pedophilia is against the law.

Sorry honey, when something like this happens, it crosses all political lines. When a child is abused, everrything changes for them. Part of there life is taken from them. It's unfortunate and wrong that its so politiczed, but that is life. The republicans brought this down upon themselves and they must be held accountable. What's really sick is that there not willing to take responsibiity for this. It's everybody's fault but theres. And that is sick.

from what I understand... the guy wasn't 18 for some of it... saying "most of it" doesn't mean all...

so that's the sticking point...

the other sticking point is... this is the party that ran on a "we are moral and they are not" campaign... and they blasted Clinton for sex with an 18 year old intern, but we can't blast back?
