very good question indeed mr.ashok k., i myself have wondered for a long time abt religion and did it actually trigger the violence which we have witnessed throughout the history until this day.
Great battles have been and still is being fought in the name of various religions. I personally must say tht deep believers or fanatics of a particular religion are the people who created and still creates religious wars. Fanatics are the people who creates racism, discrimination and hatred.
On the otherhand, i also believe tht without religion and its moral, we human would slaughter each other even more bcs we have jealousy, selfishness and greed in our blood, afterall we are humans with huge brains.
The existence of Religion and its good morals creates fear and guiltness for our wrong doings, this creates Peace and harmony bcs religion develops humans understanding of the right and wrong in all aspects in life.
We shld believe in god and in our religion worshiped straight through our heart rather than going through a third party....every sunday whn we go to church we always see collection baskets being passed, we read history of arabs and how they spread their religion and build great mosques in various countries they have passed through yet we see the money going back to the source arab world via Haj or Haji, atleast all muslims most go the mecca once in their live. We go worship in temples, pray to ganga waters here again we see people placing money or gold coins to the temple....this is all man made scenario to make 'profit'.
Afterall, all religions are man made, God did not come down and instructed different religions for different race....Religion is man made told to us by us, and also believed by us.
I have a good friend who is a fanatic, he is a good and kind person, the only problem he has is tht he hates other people outside his religion yet he is my good friend and i m not the same religion. I asked him y hate others when you respect me, his answer is tht he knows me and not the others. I then realised tht my friend the 'fanatic' is a confused person, i really do pity him, he has been corrupted by his faith.
I have seen, observed and realised tht people who believe in god but are not fanatics, these people are good and open-minded people.
No, being fanatic is actually out-dated for this new mellenium. We believe in technology, science, space, etc.....All of us should believe in god and religions but not to an extent tht we fight wth each other in the name of the lord, because i bet gazillion bucks tht the lord doesnt want us to shed blood unnecessarily or wht we see today FOOLISHLY.
(This is my PERSONAL OPINION, i mean no disrespect to anyone or any religion.)

The eighteenth century German military theorist Carl von Clausewitz wrote that war is "politics by other means." Well, religion often seems the same. There are, as I see it, two very different kinds of "religion". There's organizational religion, which we are all very familiar with, and there is religious philosophy. All large, powerful religious organizations teach that those who wield power are rightly the holders of power (they just object to certain actions, not politicians who subscribe to repressive or destructive or authoritarian ideas of governance). Right now the world is digging in religiously, and the world is in quite a lot of trouble. I am now 47 years old. I'm glad maybe most of my life is already over. If the world comes to an end in say, 2060, I will be gone. I wish I could enlighten the people of the world somehow, but they are not of a listening sort. At least I get to expire soon. Thank God!

Power, money, territory, racial hatred, are all reasons wars have been started. As long as humans have human emotions we will fight each other. Also research history and you will find the people starting the wars are usually very well educated.
In regard to your second question, no. A fanatic is just that, nothing more. There are fanatics in every part of life, not just religion.

I definitely think we must have religion in this World. The basic reason why religion is in our civilization to begin with is because of the fear of death. Can you imagine how people would react if they didn't believe they would still have an existence after they died. I'm not saying all people would have a problem, but a large number of people would. It would cause chaos and havoc. I agree that we should be advanced enough in our culture to know that it isn't an insult on your beliefs for someone to have different beliefs, but unfortunately that isn't how it is.

well yes there should be religion, but i believe that we shouldn't be fanatic to prove out point of view , man kind has thrived on knowing the reason and the creator of his life.
without the thought of god and religion it would be rather chaotic life the person would live.
having religion is some kind of stabilizing matter that is IF it was taking in a moderate way.

there should be religion, but not a designated religion
and no, you do not have to be a fanatic to prove you are religious, because you do not have to prove to any human that you are religious or not and what would we fight about, you ask?
let's see, my pool is better than your pool, your dog is ugly, mine is not, the sky is blue not gray, the grass is greener on my side of the fence, etc. (people argue about anything just cuz)

I imagine that without religion, people would be forced to fight about Race, Politics, Philosophy, Sex, and Wealth... pretty much the same things they fight over now, but they would not be able to hide their motives behind the same veneer of righteous BS, and without the hope of moving on to a better place after the bickering SOBs have finally killed them.

Without religion we could still fight for money. Actually, I think that is what most wars are about and sometimes religion is used to validate them.

No, the sane religious Muslims just bow to Mecca 5 times a day instead of strapping on suicide bomb jackets.
