They way Depression/Economic "failure" was explained to me was... It simply happens. The economy flucuates up and down, and sometimes way down. Not one man and/or administration can change a depression. They can, though, be lucky enough to have the economy rise back up in their time in office and be given the credit.

The only thing that a president/administation can do is try to create for labor orientated jobs for the citizens.

I'd say America is headed towards a rude awakening, personally. It's what happen in war-time.

I think this war is sucking the money right out of the US. I don't think any president can save us from being poverty stricken as you say. But if you really think about it the US does not know poverty. We have food, shelter and clothes. Those are basic necessities of life. Most in other countries do not even have those. We also , at least most have more than the basic necessities ......so to say that the US is poverty stricken means that we are spoiled. We have no idea what its like to be truly poor and do with out. Nail salons and hair salons are still making business and people are still smoking and people still drink more soda than water. Until the day comes that people are unable to make the bare necessities as I listed above......then and only then can the US say we are poverty stricken.

I think it will take more than a good prez. I think that there is so much corruption in the government, laws, and everything, that we need an overhaul of the entire system. The people in the positions to make the changes are the ones directly benefiting from the way things are. Whether or not they are corrupt, they don't want change and risk their cushy jobs and extravagant benefits and pentions.
Also, people hate change. All people, not just politicians. Everyone panics when the weather changes, this is major changes that will scare many people.

well actually, in order for a society to survive in a trade world, 3% of thier population must be poor.

but, with a progressive president, senate, congress, and soverign people, we might be a little better off

Poverty and Depression have always existed. The difference now is that the gap between the "haves" and "have nots" is becoming increasingly larger.

From Poverty, certainly. A nation like that will always be prosperous, no matter how big the mistakes. But from depression, hm... let's call it a hangover, and it will be felt.

Yes, the US needs an entirely new approach to survive the damage of this Administration. But there is hope through inclusiveness where all great minds are invited to assist, instead of being ignored and shut down as they are now.
