Is it typical to get pell grant and student loans for med school to cover it all. I am 30 and do not have good credit and two small kids. I am determined to go but need to figure out how to pay for it.

Not knowing your situation I can't give too much advice. Don't think any of my classmates had loans to "cover it all". There are many loans and scholarships but in general most people do part loan, part family help or own savings. Med school is not undergrad, you do NOT have time to work-study (at least I didn't know anyone who had time to do so).

It is a long road to go through med school, residency, and possibly even longer if you specialize. You might want to calculate out the years and $$ you have to invest and see if the eventual financial gain would balance it. I am speaking from a practical point of view, considering you have a family to take care of. Finally, you will need very good support/child care. I went through residency with 2 sister-in-laws raising my son basically.

You normally don't have to have good credit to get a student loan but you're not going to be able to get grants that will cover all of your expenses so you'll have to go the loan route. Just be prepared to spend a whole lot of time on school if you do go to medical school and it's not going to be easy with two small kids and you're going to miss a whole lot of important times with your children so only you can decide if the trade offs are worth it on this. Keep in mind you're also going to have to have child care when you're in school and you're not only going to have to meet your everyday expenses but the children's as well. Still with the willingness to work and good organizational skills anything is possible. Good luck.

You can go to another country where it'll be cheaper. I went to Mexico and it was about 200 bucks for the first semester (all classes and labs covered) About 300 for all the books and only 60 bucks a month rent! There are schools that'll teach all in English (in the center of Mexico, not the north)... So check some schools' websites up. Good luck!

You don't need good credit, but it helps a lot. You will NOT get a Pell Grant (because you can ONLY get one for an undergraduate degree).

Are you going to study to be a doctor with two kids, or are you going into something else?
