No, I don't think Mattingly will take the heat. They are a great hitting team, it's just in the playoffs the pitching is better, and it's not as easy to score runs as it is during the regular season. The reason why the Yankees won their titles in the '90s, as because they "took what the pitcher gave them". They played little ball, used the hit and run, and could win without homers. They beat Smoltz, Maddux, and Glavine in '96 and '99 when those guys were in their prime. Kenny Rogers isn't in those guys' league, but the Yankees were up there tonight trying to hit the ball out of the park, not just trying to make contact (though they did hit some balls hard, but right at people). It's not Mattingly, but the fact they have too many sluggers, not enough grinders, like O'Neill, Brosius, Girardi, and even Knoblauch.

Also, if you remember, they won a lot of low-scoring games in the old days (remember 1-0, Pettitte over Smoltz in '96?) The hitting isn't the problem, the pitching is what's killing them.Mussina couldn't hold a 3-1 lead and it killed them. I think it's time Torre took some heat, Mattingly is a great coach.

If any coaches are going to take the heat it's gotta be Torre , he makes out the line-up cards and decides when to pull pitchers I think that he made a mistake not batting A-rod in the 9 spot and he should have taken Johnson as soon as he gave up three runs.
But Friday nights game didn't bother me as much as Thursday nights. On Friday the Tigers got great pitching and that will shut down power hitting every time .By the 6th inning it was obvious that the yanks were out of it. So tip your cap to the Tigers for a job well done
Thursdays game was a game the Yankees should have won and didn't. Big games are won by doing the little things right and the Yankees didn't But they better or it's going to be long a long and interesting winter.

Don Mattingly coached the #2 and #3 leaders in batting average this year. NUF SAID.

Why would the Yankees bypass after Pujols whilst they have already got an extremely sturdy first baseman because it rather is? I doubt they are going to pay somebody $20 million just to be a DH. confident i'd be shocked if the Yankees signed Pujols. i'm unwell of listening to all this BS approximately figuring out to purchase, it happens in the time of activities, that's spoke of as loose business enterprise. i'm no longer a Yankees fan yet i'm bored with stupid questions.

I think it would be Joe Torre or Gator actually. When you have a line up of 9 all stars you can't blame the hitting coach. Understood they didn't do anything offensively, but why is it that every other team in the play offs have a starter that doesn't give up any runs into the 7th? The manager is the only one to blame since he kept the old man in wayyy too long!

That old fat guy who's the owner of teh Yankees will probably go on a firing streak. As much as I hate teh Yankees, it would suck to see Joe Torre take blame. He's one of the few guys I don't hate on the Yankees squad.

No but Joe Torre could step down or be fired and one of the coaches could become manager. Remember they have Bowa,
Kerrigan, Mazzilli & Pena, all ex-managers. I bet Tony Pena would sure like to be wearing uniform #6, his usual number.

I don't think so the Tigers have good pitchers, and as the old saying goes good pitching will stop good hitting. Starting pitching is the Yankees Achilles heel when they are hitting they can outscore any team.

I think Joe Torre takes the heat, and may be fired. I predict that they also blame A-rod and try to trade him.

A-Rod will be ripped to shreds again of the coaches it has to be Torre.
