Language is only one side of our brain. We still have another whole side to work with. Your thinking may not be logical but it will be thinking just the same. That may have something to do with why so many artists in our world produce such beautiful works but they are as dumb as a box of rocks. And that is the reason that the human race has an obligation to take care of one another because we all have something to contribute. Some people need help in basic life skills just so they can survive and give us the art that we do so need to keep us in balance.

Best Regards
Jon

Language came out of human thought

Ask that question of any person who was born deaf. Of course you can think without language. Language is but a minute portion of the thought process anyway.

of course you can think language is not limited to speech. There are many types body language, touch, etc. There was a time when certain cultures didnt have a set language but relied heavily on body language. when you want to hug or kiss someone those are just words we place on it, it is rather our emotions appealing to us to act and show it in some way. so we get close hug or kiss. here we thought of what we wanted to do and then we acted on it.

According to Hellen Keller, no. (See her autobiography, where she discusses both her ability to think -- or lack thereof -- before she acquired language.)

In my opinion (which differs somewhat, in that I have both auditory and visual "images" at my disposal) it is possible. I can think about the last time I put my son to bed, or contemplate giving my next massage without the use of words -- merely in recalled or projected visual and kinetic/tactile imagery. I can contemplate which herbs are still missing from my soup, and what was wrong with my last summersault.

All without the use of language.

But everyone has described a language, just not in the form we know it.

Lanuage is communication, even if we are thinking to ourselves.

So - No, we couldn't think in the definition that we could understand what we are thinking. That makes us vegetables.

Good question. Made me think hard.

Language as we understand is for communicating a thought in one brain to another brain.

Our thoughts have their own language which could well be different in different brains. This is basically of two types - one for perception and the other for logic.

Very much... And you are doing it more often than you are aware of... Only, such non verbal thoughts require too little a time, to occur and pass by, so gets very little noticed ! Look at the abrupt impulsive actions, it is also a thought process, which occurs after recalling from memory the past experience !

if there were no language we would think in terms of objects, feelings, needs, smells/
For instance if a deaf person smells something good, they understand the smell and they understand the feeling in their stomach which represents the need to eat.

The brain woulld develop a way to process things
