I have been taking an antibiotic and i have just finished with it. It gave me a yeast infection about 3 days into the treatment and i have been living in total discomfort because it's useless to do anything until the anibiotics are finished. I am planning on going in the morning to purchase an over the counter treatment. I have only used the one dose monistat kit, I'm just wondering if there is a better one? Thanks

If you read the box most of them are the same, most of them have the same exact ingredeance in them, even the store baught brands have the same as monistat. I have never found one that is so much differant than the other ones, they all do the same thing. However now you do have a choise as to how long you want to take them which is nice, 7 days 3 days one dose. And yoyu can start medication for yeast infection while you are still taking your precription drug. You don't have to wait until they are done, there is no reason to make your self suffer like that. I have worked in health care for over 15 years and had had many yeast infections from percriptions. That is why I started looking at labels and found out all are the same you just have to picki the duration. Also I have to keep the cream around the house all the time, my little girl who is just learning how to tend to down there better gets yeast infections often. And the same I use for her I will use to. Just read the labels

I would ask the pharmacist about it. Many times, they can tell you which products work best... especially since you have just been on antibiotics, some may be better suited for you. No need to be embarassed asking the pharmacist this type of question either- they hear so many things, they are always glad to be able to help.

I have heard before that the 3 day medicine is best, that sometimes the one dose is not enough.

For the future, I would give the doctor a quick call and ask if you need to wait until you finish the antibiotic to start a yeast infection medicine/or, you may even be able to get this information from your pharmacist. I dont think you should have to stay in that much discomfort the whole time you are on antibiotics, and am sure they have some treatments for you that would still work.

hope youo feel better soon.

Probably all of the OTC medications are about the same. But why can't you start the treatment while still taking the antibiotic? Plus, you should eat yogurt (or anything with live bacteria cultures)--that helps fight off yeast infections (especially when your immune system is busy with an antibiotic.

That's fine, but did you know you could prevent the yeast infection in the first place by eating a half cup of yogurt with active cultures each day?

It would still help if you did it now. Go ahead and get the Monistat, but pick up some yogurt too.

I can call my gyno or my regular doctor and just tell them that the antibiotics gave me a yeast infection and either one will just call in a prescription called Diflucan. It is an oral pill usually taken in 1 or 2 doses - easy, inexpensive, and starts working fast! Good Luck!

the same thing happens with me. i found the monistat one to be the best over the counter one. get the one with the wipes and the tube of extra medicine for itching while the medicine works. the very very best stuff is the diflucan pill. if you have insurance it would definitely be worth the phone call to your dr. in the morning. next time you take antibiotics get them to prescribe diflucan at the same time as your antibiotics.

Unfortunately anitbiotics often cause this problem with women, but monistat is ususally the best treatment. The 1 day dose ususally does the trick.

That is a good brand, what ever you do get the 7 day treatment instead of the 3 day even though it says it works just as good. My Doc recommened the 7 day.

Diflucan...all the way! With some OTC anti-itch cream and plenty of yogurt. Yogurt helps put the "good" bacteria down there. Call you doctor and he/she can usually call in a prescription for the Diflucan.
