Basically, I'm looking to upgrade from my NVIDIA GeForce 5900 FX to a newer, more powerful graphics card. However, my motherboard uses PCI, and I'm a bit confused with it. Can newer cards (like the 6 and 7 series GeForce cards, or what have you that utilize PCI-express) work with the old buses? And if so, will they still offer noticeable performance increase?

Buying a new motherboard really isn't something I'm capable of doing, so I'd appreciate any help at all in this. If they don't work at all, I'd also really appreciate help in finding a relatively strong PCI card.

Thank you much.

Thanks. That's what I figured, but I thought I'd ask. How much of a difference would the 6200 make overall?

No they will not work, will not even fit in. The best PCI card you can get is the GeForce 6200 not much better than what you have but that is the best.

PCI-eXpress is only backward compatible, meaning it will accept regular PCI cards but PCI will not accept PCIX cards.

I'm not sure what kind / speed processor you have in your machine now but I guarantee you that no matter what other regular PCI card you get, you will not be able to increase performance as it will strain your processor just as much.
PCI is like a dial-up connection compared to the newer PCI-EXpress which would be like broadband.
