they are two different mammals of the same species. Think of it this way. whites, blacks, Asians are 3 different mamamls of the same species(human species).
both are of the genus Panthera. The Leopard is the 4th largest big big cat in the world, the Jaguar is the 3rd largest. Most leopards are light tan or fawn with black rosettes, but their coat color is highly variable. There are smaller rosettes and spots on the head.

Leopards range from Africa To Asia.
The Jaguar ranges from Mexico (with occasional sightings in the southwestern United States) across much of Central America and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina.

They have different spot patterns, The jaguars spots, called rosettes are larger then the leopards and have little spots inside, and of course the leopard doesn't. Then the spots on a leopard are all about the same size all over it's body, where as a Jaguars spots might be large on it's legs, and small on its back or so on. Also an adult jaguar can weigh up to 300 pounds while the leopard only 120. The jaguar has a stokier shape then the leopard and jaguars live in the Americas while leopards live in Asia. Leopards climb into trees often to get away from danger and jaguars are more likley to stand and fight. Anyway, I hope that covered most of it, sorry if it doesn't.

The spots are different. I've never seen a black jaguar, but a black leopard is called a panther. A panther has spots as well, only you can't see them. The spots are slightly different on a jaguar and panther.

I don't know of any jaguars or leopards that are all black, only black spots. The main difference is that they live in different regions.

What's the difference in a Dalmatian and a Greyhound? They are two different breeds of dogs. Same with the Jaguar and Leopard, two different breeds of cats.

Jaguars are native to north and south america, while leapords are native to africa and asia. Jaguar lineage split from the panther lineage about four million years back.

Unlike a leapord, panther loves the water. In this, and in its ecological niche, it resembles a tiger.

Only melanistic jaguars are black, and there are melanistic leapords too. And typically, a jaguar weighs more than a leapord.
