Many states do not have records for inactive or resigned members online.

If they were a patent attorney before 1928, you may not find a license at all.

Ask the person what years they practiced, and in what state.

Check with the state bar of that state.

Ask the person for proof ... law school diploma, for example.

Ask them if they ever met someone named Hadley V. Baxendale.

If they say "no" they've never even been to Law School.

aba- american bar associationn- they can tel you if they used to practice law- but if they are dis- barred- for anything criminal-- it stops there---
