I bought my 2002 GRAND AM SE1 ... 9 months ago and I love it! I put soooooo MANY miles on it and consequently I have to give it several oil changes and frequent servicing for regular maintenance ... all part and parcel! Knock on wood ... I haven't had any major problems yet.

I have been looking at various sites where people rate their GRAND AM's and it seems like the more frequent complaints come from Americans. The one other thing I noticed is that mine was made in Canada.

#1 Where are those sold in the US made?

#2 Lets say they were made in Mexico, would there be a
difference in quality much like that experienced by many
disgruntled Volkswagen Jetta owners?

#3 Of those Canadians who own a 2002 Grand Am, are you
generally happy with your car?

first off i'm not from canada. however i can answer your questions, i think. let me also say that the most well know problem for the grand am 3.4l is the lower intake manifold gasket usually goes bad after about 75k miles.its only on the 3.4l the 2.4l doesnt do it. and the 3.4l in other cars, such as the grand prix and camaro's dont do it.i have been looking into the problem on what makes the grand ams go out, and it looks like there is/was a problem with the pcm programing out of the factory. the fans dont turn on when there suppose to. too much heat over a period of time, can cause a gasket to fail. but thats just one of my theroys. now for your questions.

#1 detroit, which is probably more like Winser Canada.

#2 maybe if they were made in mexico, but there not.

#3 again, as a american, with the 01 grand am, i am more then happy with my car. it has not failed me once, and i have done the things that i need to do to keep that gasket from failing. retuned my pcm so that the fan would kick on at 180*, and replaced the gasket at about 45k miles, when i ported my heads.

i hope this helps you.
