Several cities in the Pacific Northwest have won the honor. The Portland, Oregon area has high housing prices, but that's because it's such a great place to live. The same goes for Seattle. Check out Forbes magazines annual rating. Don't forget climate on your list. Good luck

Go east young man. Living in Arizona, I see more California car tags than you can shake a stick at. The whole west is so full of opportunities that it is growing fast...too fast. The crime rate is rising and the price for a gallon of gas is a full quarter more here than in the eastern states. I am thinking if you want to get away from crime, find good jobs, good real estate prices, along with good schools, you should move to northern cold climate states.

Good Luck
Jon

Pittsburgh, PA has everything except the 'lot of jobs' on your list. If you can find employment or provide your own, it is a wonderful place to live.

I lived there 23 years and enjoyed my neighbors in 3 different neighborhoods, never even knew anyone who got robbed or mugged, and my kid went on to an Ivy League college, so the schools were great!
