I have always heard that it is better to quit without notice than to get fired. How much truth is in that?

I would say neither is better. I also agree with the last person that it is even worse to get fired.

I suggest not quitting your job without notice. In this day and age, it is best to quit a job by giving notice. It is best to give two weeks notice that you're quitting and state the reason why, that is, if you want. It will be better for you and the employer. That will allow the employer to look for a replacement.

I have been a manager for too many years and I feel that if you are that unhappy with where you are working that bad, just quit! Depending on what state your in you have that right and it can not be held against you.
I am in PA and in this state an employer or an employee can quit or be terminiated with out cause. Unless you are a union or contract worker, I would just tell my boss (in person) that you are not happy with your job and that you are done. Short and sweet but, remember you probally will be put in not avaliable for rehire list, meaning that if you ever wanted to go back to that company you couldn't

It's very true. I should know, because I manage a retail store, and it pisses me off when an employee quits without notice, even when I'm about to fire that same person. If you know that your days are numbered, haul your butt out of there!

dear friend,

quit or fired , both are not better.

See, progress or success in life is based on the relations you grow and cultivate.
so its always better to leave the job with respect , have a free and frank word with employer . Every employer knows that nobody is going to stay in his or her office for life-long.

World is very small, who knows , your employer and you may come face to face in the future in front of your close ones or your valued relations. Then you should not feel embrassed. who knows both of you may be of help to each other in future.
nobody knows.
So I suggest to have respect give respect and have healthy relations with everybody as far as possible..

Have wonderful significant life
Raj.

They may be equal... No they are not .. Usually when you get fired, you leave right then and there...............If you give notice of quitting, for some reason people give their boss a two week notice........This was actually done so that the boss had time (two weeks) to replace you............

I would say it is worse to get fired, because that means you obviously did something wrong or they simply were not pleased with your performance.
