They are absolutely corrupt.

There are some workers who are in it for the "right reasons" and try to do what is in the best interests of the children. There are many many more workers, however, who are hardened and suffering from their own unresolved childhood issues who are hell bent on conducting witch hunts and seeing EVERY accused parent as "bad".

There are too many supervisors who override the decisions of good caseworkers regardless of the facts.

There is a financial incentive for CPS to take your children. There is a financial incentive for CPS to adopt your children out. There is a financial incentive for the state to label your child "special needs" to get more funding.

Almost verything they do is financially motivated. If the same "rewards" were given for family reunification or preservation, you'd see a huge drop in the removal rate. Some states have done this, and it's been long enough for us to see that children are NOT less safe in those states. They are better off because the $$$ incentive to destroy families was removed from the equation.

Even the services they "offer" or order are all based on the almighty dollar. The therapist is going to go alone with whatever the caseworker wants to hear about the parents, because the CPS contracted therapist wants to KEEP those government contracts coming in. Your CPS ordered therapy is nothing but a CPS-paid for interrogation session.

It's a mess. They focus on cookie cutter services no matter what the problem is. Mom has trouble making ends meet on a minimum wage job and has her water shut off? Make her take parenting classes and go to therapy. Mom can't take the time off work for all the appointments? Label her "uncooperative" and move to terminate her rights.. especially if her children are "adoptable" (i.e young, cute, healthy).

It's a nightmare machine and if any of you had any idea how many NORMAL, INNOCENT families are caught up in the system, it would make you ill.

All it takes is a phone call with a false report. Heck, get enough of those on your record (piss off enough neighbors or exes), and they'll take your kid JUST based on the number of reports in your history!

Sounds like something from Orwell's 1984, doesn't it?

Scary thing, but it's true.

No one thinks kids should be left with abusive parents. The problem is when CPS gets their priorities skewed by the almighty dollar and you throw in vague terms like "neglect", which can be completely left up to interpretation by the investigating worker. Some workers will have a realistic world view and will understand the difference between poverty and neglect, or between a family with unconventional beliefs vs. someone with true mental problems.. but far more will not, and will "remove" for the most insane reasons. Just because mom is poor, or a child is naturally thin (or naturally heavy), or a child is going through a rough patch and gets into a fight in school, or the family has helped out other family temporarily and let some relatives move in to avoid homelessness, or a child's school uniforms are clean but stained at the end of the year and the family cannot afford to buy new ones... all of these and more are reasons I personally know of where children have been removed from their homes.

Being a bit familiar with that term, I dont think they are corrupt, but they are so overwhelmed by the number of kids that it has become a dangerous program. Too many case workers that do not follow up on the children. my view is getting rid of Juvenile courts, and and because kids in CPS have it hard they need a new system that looks for them and maybe have them learn skills like in trades, construction, building etc to give them a chance to make life for them selves or some trade they can fall back on.

They need better judgement.... they sometimes try to keep a family together and the child ends up DEAD....

They have too much power in some ways and not enough in others....

the reasons are obvious... CPS actions and their results....

every dern agency needs to ensure they are "NEEDED" to get more funding, and that by itself leads to corruption..
