I want to pull 18 gauge narrow 1/4 and 1.5 inches long crown staples from wood. What is a good tool to do this. I tried my narrow nose plier but it doesn't get a good grip. Are there any other heavy duty tools or pliers that you would recommend?

I use a pocket knife. Might not work with the 1.5 inch ones, so I'd use a cheap knife to try them. Probably couldn't pry them all the way out with the knife, but might lift them enough to grab them with any kind of pliers.

A East Wing hammer (a claw hammer) has always worked for me. If the staple breaks, then you will have to use a twisting motion to pull the staple the rest of the way out with a pair of pliers. Either way you will gouge the wood a little, hope this helps!

HEY,, they make fencing pliers people!! they are pliers, cutters, hammer and staple remover all in one!!! check with a hardware store, ranch supply.. Ace hardware, true value, lowes, home depot etc etc!!! you put the pointy end at the staples U and hit the hammer section with another hammer to drive the point in,, then just pull up!!!!!!these pliers are made for just such work!! they are big heavy duty pliers for installing and removing barbed wire fencing and such

I use a small flat-end screwdriver and a claw hammer. Put the screwdriver at the top of the staple against the wood, GENTLY give the end of the screwdriver a tap or two, then pry staple away from wall. Grab with pliers (or tap the screwdriver again and pray it out further) and out it comes.

Just about any good hardware store Lowes, true value, home Depot, jusy about anywhere you can purchase a tack or staple puller for just a couple bucks . It looks just like a flat tip screwdriver but at the end it is bent up and it has a "v" end or snake tounge. Place against staple and give a little push and twist and she's outta there. Been using one for years and haven't found anything that works better or faster. Good Luck MY Friend

You will need to use a narrow screw driver to get under the staple to pry it up. It will gouge the wood to get under it but that is the way. Once it is lifted you can use needle nose pliers to pull it out. Be careful not to break the staple. Then it will be harder to get out.

Use a flat blade screwdriver to get under the staple, the get a pair of End Nippers at your local hardware store and use them to pull the staples.

Regular slip joint pliers work better than needle nose pliers. But don't buy them at the dollar store.
