They hurt when I had them, but they have made huge improvements in the technique since then. Initially putting them on is going to still probably hurt, but try deep breathing to keep you calm. I even took a key ring and fiddled with it with my hands, anything to take your mind off it,
Talk to your orthodontist and let them know you are scared; you aren't alone.
It is SOOOOOO worth it tho' ! You will be glad forever that you had it done and think how cute you'll look!

I've had braces twice for a total of about 5 years.
When you first get them, the inside lining of your mouth has to adjust to having metal against it, which isn't too bad. I got used to my braces pretty quickly, At first, smiling, talking and eating were a little awkward for me, but that awkwardness went away pretty quickly also, to where I wasn't even self-conscious about them. The only pain is maybe a little soreness when you first get them from the bands around your molars, and then later when they tighten the wires at visits, or give you elastics. After each visit, IF my mouth was sore, the majority of it never lasted longer than about 3 days, and I had some major work done. I don't mean to scare you. There were only a couple of times worth mentioning, and looking back, it was worth it. Don't worry, though, your orthodontist, just like a doctor, will help prescribe you something if you're ever hurting. Just one thing though--if you ever have to wear elastics, it's really hard to make yourself put them in knowing that your mouth is going to be sore from it, but just know and have some willpower to make it through till that 3rd day when the soreness will go away. It always helped me to know that the soreness would only last so long, a max of 3 days. Maybe you won't need such major work as me, though (cross-bite and underbite), and you can disregard all this! Don't worry about being nervous, though, having braces is really not too bad at all!

I had an expander first than braces, it mostly feels a little weird for a while and when the orthodontist tightens them it hurts a tiny bit. The worst thing is when the braces start rubbing on the insides of your mouth, to fix that, put some wax where its rubbing (put it on the braces) and it will stop that.
There's no need to be nervous, plenty of people have had braces before you, plenty will have them after, just look forward to the future where you will have an even more gorgeous smile :-)

At first they will hurt a bit. Your lips have to get used to expanding over your brace covered teeth and your inside of your lip might get cut up a little, there will also be a lot of strain on your teeth but that will only last a week or so. I suggest putting some anbesol on the inside of your lip to help ease the pain. Good luck and having a nice smile is so worth the pain!

Yes Braces hurt!!!
they hurt when you put them on and the first week oh and when you take them off!!! but the most it hurts is day 2 of having them on! braces aren't that bad for one they can sometimes make you look pretty and sometimes not so pretty! i had braces for 2 years and 3 months at first i thought that my life was ruined because i got these railwaay tracks in my mouth, but after a while i thought "gee, it's not that bad" because you can change the colours of your braces and everything. it's actually really kewl so yeah

I had to get braces twice (because I moved countries during my first treatment). Both times didn't hurt for me. For the first week or so, you can't really eat hard foods and you may feel slight pain eating "softer foods", like bread, etc. but don't worry! It's not like surgery. You'll have nice teeth too afterwards! Good luck!

the first 2 or 3 days every time you come back from the orthodontist, and when you first get them, your teeth will ache a little, it didn't really bother me that much.

the thing that really sucked was this bridge of metal, they webbed between my left and right upper molars, i couldn't touch my tongue to the roof of my mouth!! I COULDENT TAKE IT OUT! i talked funny the whole time they made me wear it!! (6 months!!) it was called an "upper expansion device" they were trying to match up my molars so they were even on both sides, and that was the only way to push them so they were further away from one another. and as if that wasnt bad enough, they had me expand the expansion device every day! they gave me this metal key that fit back inside the expansion device, and widened the thing inside my mouth, making my molars further and further apart from one another (it made most people sick just looking at it)

I've also been told headgear is awful. but you dont normally have to wear it unless you need to go to bed. they dont make you wear it to school.

the very worst part for me is when i got them off, and they made me wear that retainer. i couldn't wear it! i spent the night over at my friends, and i guess i would take it out in my sleep, because i woke up and it was in my friend's hair!!! AHHHH! i just had to stop wearing it. sure my teeth kinda went back to the way they were, but they still look nice today, and I'm glad i went through with it all. i still have a little piece of wire they glued to the bottom of the inside of my lower teeth. its been in there for like, 10 years now. they told me when i first got it, that it would fall out in a couple years.... i think they lied....

but i looked at it like this: theres a bunch of guys out there that think girls with braces are cuter.

I actually just got my braces off.. They really dont hurt except when you go in for your visits and they tighten them...
Just let me give you a piece of advise... Wear your retainer.. I didnt like the way mine tasted so I never wore it.. now i need another year treatment...

There is no reason to be nervous.

The pain is minimal; more like a throbbing ache. Nothing to be worried about at all. It comes after they are first in & again a little after they are tightened. Make sure to make all your appointments & be careful of what you eat so you don't break them - the more breaks the longer you have to have them on.

Good Luck!
