Mainly because Britian was the world superpower at that time, and the American Revolution set in motion the series of events that made the British Empire fall.

The American Revolution brought to an end the first empire that was so vast the sun never set on it, bringing about new ideas of national and world power and dominance. The United States was the first modern superpower. For more than a hundred years she lay quietly in the Americas, stewing. Immigrants came from every corner of the globe to participate in the new world experiment called freedom. She grew and kept to herself until she was dragged into WW1. Reluctantly she came out of her shell. The world was blown away by her power. And until this day in 2006, the world still clamors to the United States of America to help police the world.
All of this was made possible by a little old war between England and the thirteen original colonies called The American Revolutionary War..
Best Regards
Jon

because it changed the balance of power in the world from western europe, to America. Before the American Revolution Britain (read England) was the most powerful nation in the world and afterwards, the world did not fear Britain. After the American Revolution, other countries while not especially AFRAID of America, they were wary of us. From that point on other world oowers began to recognize America as a TRUE world power. THAT is why the American Revolution is a momentous event in world history.

First, it was a major blow to the British Empire--which was "the" super power of the time. It showed their fragility and their lack of power over large and geographically distant colonies.
Also, you could argue that the American Revolution was a precursor to the French Revolution.
Also, the American Revolution established a government that was completely not based on heredity. At the time, even though Britain had a parliament, membership in the House of Lords was completely hereditary (as it still is today). They were the major power brokers along with the monarch. The AR created a government where the country's executive was elected...and so were all the representatives of government. That in and of itself was pretty amazing at the time.

Not only did it give us our own independence and make the US a world powerhouse, but it gave hope to those peoples in other countries who believed themselves to be "put down by the man" so to say. Because we are free as Americans', people all over the world have a shining example of that freedom and a place to escape to if they can not find that freedom in their homeland. Here they can be free and live as they want, practicing whatever religion they please, women wearing whatever they want, anyone an become anything. This land belongs to the world.
