I think you should investigate a second opinion before have the entire system replaced. In the mean time, a snake job may cure your problem.

As a journeyman plumber.
From what your saying I would have to guess that you may, or may not have a major problem here.
Before you sign any big contracts get at least 3 estiamtes from reputable companies, that have been in business at least 10 years or longer, and that can give you at least 3 references.
Most good companies can do some major diagnostics before saying blankly that your entire system needs replaced.
Be preparied to pay around $200 to $500 for major diagnostics.
Now, if you home is less than 25 years old, I may disagree with the soulution you were given. You may simply have a backed up sewer main, which is not uncommon.
If you home is over 25 years old, then your best to get at least professional opinions at this point.
Good Luck

How many times are you going to ask the same question? You have plumbing problem, not a plubing problem.

Call a different plumber in. If you are hooked up to city sewer why is it your responsibility to pay for a new system? The city should take of it. That is what you are paying the bill for every month.

ever thought of using a pressure washer drain cleaner? snakes may clear a way through, but not clean the pipes properly. Have you got a washing machine on your system? If so, get a bag of washing soda, (2lb) throw that in your washing macine, do a hot wash.....goodby grease....goodby blockage.
