First, Marx was German, not English, though he died in England. He came of age in the Prussian university scene, eventually rejecting the Hegelian thought of the time.
I think the ultimate reason is that communism not only fails to provide an incentive for people to strive for greatness, it provides an active disincentive for the same. For a simple example, how many kids in America play Little League or youth football, many of whom are just hoping they'll be one of the handful who make it into the majors? How many poor children play soccer worldwide with reckless abandon for the same reason? Very few actually achieve that level of greatness, but those who do did so, in part, because there was a strong incentive to be great. Or, in short, communism fails because Marx never made the acquaintance of Charles Darwin.

You ever have to do a group project in school where only one or two people did the work and the rest shared the grade? That works until the workers get disgusted, quit and everybody gets an F.
Communism removes the incentive to work because everybody shares equally (except for the leaders). A person is not allowed to profit from his labor, so they do as little as possible.
Communists forgot about human nature.

It doesn't work because of the nature of the human being. Can you imagine someone working hard to be the best surgeon he could possibly be, knowing that his wage will be the same as a ditch diggers?
The most perfect form of communal living was the way that nuns lived in convents--nothing "belonged" to them individually, and every blessing (box of brownies from a student's mother...) had to be shared. Even that didn't work out.
In order to have some reach excellence, there has to be an incentive that is greater than self-satisfaction, I guess.

There has never been a true communism government. While called communism it is actually a dictatorship with classes. True communism there is no upper class as every body is equal. This is bad because people will not aspire to excel because basically humans are lazy. Just as a side line I do not think that there has ever been a true democracy either. We are being dictated to every day with very little to do with decisions that effect us.

It doesn't work because resources are better allocated if decisions of allocation are left to people closer to the opportunities. They have better experience and the proper focus to deal with resource allocation more efficiently. Command economies are comparatively inefficient at resource allocation.
I don't think the idea can be fixed.

you may mean karl marx, a british economist. his theories of economics as defined by labor and business owner were ideals but were too simplistic and did not take all; factors into account. no the system could not be fixed since it involves more variables than could be tracked in any conventional manner with or without computers. the biggest variable is the individual and there are more variables in a single individual then could be calculated in a hundred lifetimes.

never been in a serious relationship? or just in general? i think you would be good dating material, as you sound fun, and smart at the same time. however, being willing to do what others want to make them happy is good, but can also be a downfall. people may see you as easy to manipulate and get you to do things you wouldnt normally do. however, you sound like a good guy, and its good you have plans for you future! good luck, hope this is helpful :)
