Nothing beats Symentac Norton Professional 2006. It is frequently and regularly updated unlike others such as Trend Micro or free anti-virus softwares out there. Yes, its a little pricey but is worth the investment for security.

Dear,

The best one is Norton Antivirus belongs to the Symantec.Check www.symantec.com to have an online virus scan. A 15 day trial ware is available in Symantec website. I suggest u to gain the full version of Norton after the trial version expires because it will never ever be a loss for you.Your system will be protected ever as u know that Norton is not a new product. It has got its own name in virus protection since long years.

Personally, I use the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not.

Your dad is 1/2 authentic :-) some web pages attempt to ask you to receive different stuff and attempt to administration you to receive wierd ad-stuff. That "stuff" will be viruses, yep. yet when you're downloading a song report (.mp3 / .wav / .wmv) that's maximum probable no longer an outbreak, regardless of if that's corrupted. those form of records aren't to any extent further the virus-form-of-information. notwithstanding, in case you receive from a torrent website, it may comprise better connected information, and they are regularly viruses (in a large number of situations they're viruses...) to dodge viruses, receive legitimate & unique song from a trusty information superhighway website. when you're growing your loose song from a non-pirate information superhighway website, you could basically purchase or receive a loose antivirus software.

Probably Zone Alarm.. when we had Mcafee, we got viruses, and it didn't even detect them.

Free trials: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/trial_zaFamily/trial_zaFamily.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=db_trial

spybot, adaware, windows defender are all free.

firefox is a sturdier browser, so consider dropping IE.
