i know some shows can be educational, and i know that people for the most part do not watch it for education but to relax and be entertained. but what are your views about it overall? do you think if we didn't have tv, or maybe just local channels.. people would be out doing more creative things.. getting more exercise, and not being brainwashed by the media?

just curious....

Here is the problems with your thoughts. With life as it is now - very rush rush and little time to relax, TV is a good escape from the harsh realities that we live in. It is a good stress reliever because you can forget about your own problems for a while. It is a chance to kick up your heals and relax. If you were doing something "more creative" then that would leave less time for relaxation. If you have a problem with TV then it sounds like you need to be the one to get rid of your tv. As far as being brainwashed by the media - if this is what you think then we have been being brainwashed for hundreds of years - its called the newspaper.

By the way - TV does not contribute to obesity - it is the PARENTS who don't push their kids off the couch and the adults that do the same as the kids. Television networks are not forcing you to watch so don't blame them.

You people need to become more informed!

if tv didn't exist, reading would probably be a natural substitute while listening to the radio. it isn't called an idiot box for nothing. it creates ignorance they call entertainment, but how many people can read compared to watching a stupid show on the idiot tube? not many. as for media brainwashing, try reading several versions of the news as well as a variety of different news shows and formats. then make up your own mind. remember, tv news is just highlights, not in depth coverage which is what a news magazine or paper can provide.

Television is not worth that much. I could live without it. I read most of the time anyway. Some shows can be educational, but there are a lot more shows that are not educational.

TV is very sexual, and immorral. It contributes to the obeseity of the us, the decrease in reading scores, kids are not happy with out the fastpaced video games, so they dont tend to be as creative.

I could easily live without television, books are much better or just being outside. both of them are better for you than television.
