I was one of those kids that made skate boards from my sisters steel roller skates before the production models hit the stores. We used marine plywood that had 5 layers. I am sure if you visit a cabinet shop or even your school wood teacher they could assist in the choice and possibly have a piece just the right size. Don't let others redirect your desire to achieve, like the person above, just get done and learn as you go. Have a good one and lots of luck to you.

Depends if you're street skating, long boarding, etc. For the former, I'd say something light for tricks so watch the weight of your trucks and wheels, possibly an element or alien industries...for long boarding, I'd suggest a gravity board.

You should save your "skate board" money and get an education. Stay in school.

skateboards are made of several layers glued together (for strength) not just 1 piece of wood.

layers of maple, each layer should be 1-2 mm thick... bend and cut each piece, then fuse them together
