if tumms doesn't work mix a teaspoon of baking soda with about 4 oz of water. It tastes like crap and will make you burp, but it works wonders and is safe for the baby!

Well, people will say Tums, but I never found it helped any.

You can get Mylanta and keep it in the fridge. Something about the cold seems to help it work better, and you can take as much as you need.

When Mylanta doesn't help, you can take OTC Zantac with your doctor's OK. In fact, you can take double the dosage listed on the bottle. (But check with your doctor first.)

And, if all else fails, ask for a prescription for Prevacid. Or, better yet, a few weeks' worth of samples. I never had a problem with heartburn again after I went on Prevacid, and I stopped the day my kids were delivered.

When NOT pregnant, I like Brioschi or baking soda and water, but my OB said those are NOT NOT NOT safe when pregnant.

Well, you know what they say about heartburn and pregnancy...your baby will have a ton of hair! I had heartburn everyday since I was 3 months pregnant up until my son was born. It was horrible! Rolaids, Mylanta, Tums, none of it worked. The only thing that did the trick was Pepcid AC. My doctor recommended trying that, and it was wonderful. Just follow the directions on the label. It will not harm your baby and will ease this frustrating annoyance. But, if it's still there after taking the pepcid, your doctor can prescribe a caffiene medication that will help. But, Pepcid was the best.

I read a poster in my doctors waiting room, about heartburn. Some suggestions as alternative to Rx were;
- raise the head of your bed, incline your mattress so your esophagus (food tube) is sloped down towards your stomach while you are lying down, instead of sloped up towards your mouth.
- don't eat 3 or 4 hours before bed
- reduce your coffee and so on...and of course no alcohol while gestating a baby.

Also from my experience, read food ingredients labels, avoid any foods with sodium-phosphates, especially trisodium phosphates. I never had heartburn until I started eating Cheerios, then I read the label, it had Trisodium Phosphate in it, the same chemical to clean paint and engine-oil off your driveway. The heartburn subsided when I stopped eating that, and watch for it in other foods.

Antacids may definitely help too, of course, help to soothe the symptoms and / or help to solve the problem too. Also, regularly including calcium in your diet.
Also, check with your doctor, in case its some other problem causing it, hormones perhaps, or some digestive system bacterial infection. Some heartburns are caused by bacteria, so antacids might just hide the symptoms, and not really fix the problem. Don't overdose on the antacids! Your body needs proper balance of the pH's in the right places and times.
We wish you luck in solving the problem without Rx drugs, and wish the best for your baby !:)

Try to sleep propped up with a pillow. Yogurt helped me. Avoid citrus/acidic foods, don't eat right before bed, and check whatever supplements you might take for the sodium levels...it can cause swelling. Good luck and hang in there! As soon as you give birth, the heartburn completely disappears....

Cold milk is best. Water aggravates the heartburn. If you can add Rose Petal Syrup to the milk it will work even better ! Best Wishes !
