A platform bed has a distinct advantage over a frame bed. Specifically, you don't need to spend money on a box spring. Keep in mind, though, that many mattress warantees are voided for use without a boxspring. That's mainly a way of pushing you into buying a complete set, though.

In fact, there are some mattresses (such as memory foam mattresses) that are recommended for use with a platform bed. Their manufacturers recognize that additional support is not needed.

As far as your sleep experience, there should be no difference between sleeping on a platform bed and sleeping on a frame bed. It's just a matter of preference.

I prefer a platform bed, or just a mattress on the floor. The harder the surface that is slept on--yes that goes for concrete--the more the body relaxes like jello. This discerns a great nights rest. I will not give up my soft pillow!
