I would have defintely called 911 and told them you saw someone acting supsicious and you thought that they were trying to break in. I would have kept the lights on, actually. That can deter people out to cause trouble. They want a house that is empty a lot of the time. Not always, though, so that's a hard thing to determine. I also would have called a friend or a family member and talked to them after I got off the phone with the cops, so that someone would know if something happened.

Well considering that the cops cant do much unless he on the property after you have told him to leave. They would in most cases come out to make sure everything was alright depending on where you live. But another route to go is call the fire dept. granted this may seem stupid or weird but think about if you call the police about a tree in the road who are they gonna tell you to call the fire dept. if their is a cat in a tree you call the fire dept. If you ever lived in New York there is only one person you can call and they would show up the fire dept. You can call the police but it might be a few days till they get their. You can call a taxi they might show up they might not. but you call the fire dept they will always show up. It might sound stupid but it works and they come (trust me i know I'm a firefighter, and i have had some strange calls) but all in all you gotta keep your cool your you have kids with you and if they see your scared then there gonna be scared and if they see that you cant control the situation then they wont listen to you...even if you don't have control of the situation you gotta act like it.

Simple. 911~ You are responsible for 3 children. It's your DUTY to make sure they are secure no matter what. You call 911 and report a prowler and tell them you are in charge of 3 children. Simple! I wouldn't HESITATE for ONE MOMENT! That's what 911 is FOR! SAFETY FIRST! Prevention is more important than being embarassed if it's nothing!!!!!! And your kids' parents will trust you implicitly if they need you again!

I would turn all the ligts ON in the house and call 911. If you are scared, they do NOT CARE if they come out to check it out.
