On page 3/4 in the F.A.Q. About the Books section of her official website, J.K. Rowling answers this question in her own words: Will you write more Harry Potter books after the seventh?

"If you mean more novels, then I think it highly unlikely. I've got enough story for seven books and I never planned to carry the story beyond the end of book seven. I might do an eighth book for charity, a kind of encyclopedia of the world so that I could use all the extra material that's not in the books...we'll see!"

Then again, in the Rumors section, she answers a similar question: I am going to write a book about Lily and James once I've finished the seven books about Harry Potter.

"Hmm... once again, too much Star Wars can do this to a person. No prequels are planned."

So, basically, it sounds as though she is giving safe answers about any Harry Potter books being written after the original seven that she planned. Although she says that it is unlikely and unplanned she _doesn't_ say "no" which would neatly solve that problem if she was certain that she wanted to end all hope on that issue. Sounds like she is leaving the door open to the possibility of writing more books. I'd personally *love* to read a series about the young Marauders, Dumbledore, Hagrid, Voldemort, Snape and Lucius (prior to their Death Eater days) and about the Four Founders of Hogwarts.

There are only 7 years of school at Hogwarts and Harry finishes up in book 7 and depending on how our good author J.K. Rowling spins it, Harry may not even be around for an 8th book. She said this is the last book of the series anyway so i'm guessing book 7 will be it.

No. There are only 7 years.

According to JK Rowling, there will only be 7 years at Hogwarts. But she might decide to write an 8th book anyway, out of popular demand.

Nope. here are only 7 years of school at Hogwarts. Luckily the last book should be out next year.

No number eight. I love Harry Potter, but I think the series needs to stop at seven. It just wouldn't seem right any other way. The series needs closure.

Rowling says no -- it is a seven-year school.

I suppose there could be a Harry Potter in Magic College series.

No. and JK Rowling said that after 7 years of schooling that's it. They don't have college in the wizarding world. Too bad :-(

No, JK said that she might write one more book after the seventh year. It would be a book for charity, and would be a reference book for character histories.
