You know how some guys have a passion for football, or baseball, or computer games, or work or something?
I dated a guy who had a passion for drinks and drugs. (he was 26) He smoked about 20 joints (marijuana) a day and he'd be the first to pounce when there's coke available. His "DREAM IN LIFE" is to do heroin. What a waste of life. He was a sportsmen, good student etc, everything put to hold for his drugs. Oh he also drank. Everyday. I dumped him after a month. (yes it was during college days when a little weed was fine, but not part of an everyday date thing) Whenever he gets money, he would promise me to bring me out on big dates etc. But when night comes he says he bought marijuana with all the money he had.
Another scenario, my friend's bf in college (at the time) was a chronic alcoholic. He went around beating up juniors when his friends and him are drunk. (thank god he never beat women). He finally got stomach cancer and died. He was 30 and a newly graduated doctor.
So which of this life is better? I doubt both. Both not only end up hurting themselves but people around them. I wouldn't marry either.

I couldn't tolerate it, because there is to much heartache involved in that stuff, and I don't want to be the last one on the list of importance.

NO WAY!!! Been there and done that. It is nothing but heart ache and pain. They will always love the alcohol and drugs more than the women.

if they are willing to accept they have a problem and seek help.. I will not be a enabler and watch them wreck the family and our relationship..Nor will i sit by and watch them slowly kill themselves because in AA and NA they say rock bottom is jails, institutions and death.. I know my stepson died of this disease.. he was 35...I hope you are not speaking of you going through this.. it is a painful situation. good luck..

I would be too afraid that they steal my assets or money and sell it for drug or alcohol money.
