The Addams family had Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, and Uncle Fester, Lurch, Thing, and Cousin It. The Munsters had Herman, Lily, Grandpa, Marilyn, and their son. I can't remember his name. Herman was a Frankenstein type monster, Lily was supposedly a ghost, Grandpa a vampire and the son a werewolf or a vampire (I can't remember). Marilyn was the normal one. The Addams family was just an eccentric family that was fascinated with death.

great question
the Addams family started as a one panel cartoon in the New Yorker magazine written and drawn by Charles Addams. Nearly all the characters from the TV series appeared in the NYr (except It and Thing) although they were not named. There are a few fansites that describes the TV series creation

THe Munsters were developed at the same time as the Addams series. The Munsters were very much a vehicle for Fred Gwynne who was very popular from the 'car 54, where are you?; series

THe level of sarcasm is much higher and a little more mean in the Addams than the Munsters. The Munsters were mostly based on classic 'creations' (vampire, Frankenstien's monster, werewolf)
The Munsters had the cooler car. The Addams had a cooler house
Both are a lot fun, but when I was a little kid, 3 or 4, both shows scared me. I had to grow up a little to understand the humor

The Addams Family were more bizarre. The Munster although odd, were nice and wholesome - sort of like Father Knows Best with Halloween make-up

The Addams family were more innovative if you ask me. Each member of the Munsters family were a different monster: Frankenstein, Vampire, Werewolf, etc.
