It depends on what kind of model you want to be. There is a variety of different modeling, and no you don't have to be perfect. Sometimes having a unique look is a good thing. Just look at runway models, some of them have exotic looking features. The best way to break into modeling is to be "found" by a modeling scout, that means a scout picks you out in a crowd, such as a mall, restaurant, park, etc. Don't EVER pay to become a model, such as a modeling school-nothing but a rip off. Legit modeling doesn't work like that, at least if you want to be successful in the business. You also have to be able to handle rejection from time to time. Rejection is not always a bad thing, sometimes agencies are looking for a specific look, so that doesn't mean you're not cut out for modeling. For now, to start out, since you haven't been scouted, I'd suggest that you take a few polaroids of yourself. One of your face, with minimal makeup, one of your full body with a tank & jeans, then another one with wearing a swimsuit. Then send the pics to different agencies in your area, along with a composite card which inlcudes your age, height, weight, cup size, shoe size, dress size, hip size, & waist size. I will assure you that you won't make alot of money in the beginning, but keep with it, and you can make $1000 per photo shoot. But like I said, it depends on what type of modeling you want to do. So get yourself out there, don't be shy & never give up!

Actually dont listen to any of these people, what you have to do is make a profile on ONEMODELPLACE.COM & add your best 5 pictures & tell them you either want to work for tfcd which means time for cd or tfp which means time for prints, or you can work only if you're getting paid but you need to act like a pro & be real confortable in front of the camera, i suggest you do a couple of tfcd/tfp & get some images first & see how you like, once you've registered on onemodelplace.com you will get many offers from locals, its fun being a freelance model.
good luck

Beef up your portfolio. Solo shots and everything.
Then submit it to modelling agencies but keep your originals.
