He's an American who moved to Australia to get a job as a sharpshooter to shoot at the wildlife the was killing cattle. It turn out the people who placed the add just wanted to kill off the aboriginees who would wait outside of their guns range. When he finds out about this he punches the rancher who wanted his long range shooting skills to do that. This starts off a war between him and the rancher and his men. The British army of course took the side of the genocidal rancher because genocide is what they do best. The surname name Quigley is the anglicized version of the old Irish name Ó Coigligh. So his ancestors may have been Irish. Which explains his healthy disdain for all things English and evil.

No, Quigley is an American cowboy. He is a sharpshooter, especially skilled with a rifle. The whole movie is set in Australia, during the days of the American "Wild West".

No, he's an american. Loved it. the one liner where he says to the english officer about "we already kicked all the riff/raff out of our country. We sent them back to England" had me in fits.
