I cover the windows in my house that I do not need to open in the winter with plastic that you can shrink to a tight fit with a hairdryer, and I put plastic on the outside on the side of the house that we get the most wind. That keeps my floors warmer too. I took the insulation in a can, and sprayed it up under the bottom siding around the house, no draft will come up under the siding, or it will be less, and if you have snow where you live, when you shovel, throw the snow up against the house. It makes a nice insulator. Good luck. have a warm winter.

The usual, add insulation in the attic to slow heat loss, if needed. If you don't have double paned windows, you can buy that shrink plastic (by 3M) and cover standard windows. Of course make sure the weather stripping around exterior doors is in good shape. Lower the thermostat to 68, if it's chilly, just put on a sweater. If you have a programmable thermostat, set it lower when you are at work or maybe even sleeping. Then set thermostat to go back to regular temperature before you get home or wake up. If your water heater is in the garage, make sure it is insulated, you can buy those "blankets" to cover it at Lowe's, Home Depot, even Walmart. Chow

Turn down your thermostat, your water heater. And only use your appliances when need be. If you have kids, explain to them that the door outside isn't revolving. If you haven't done weather stripping, it's time. Be sure that your furnace filter is replaced.
