They also have to be solid. Ice is a mineral, water is not.

I am not aware of any such change. Minerals are naturally-occurring (1) inorganic substances (2) with a definite crystalline structure (3) and a constant chemical composition (4). If there is a fifth characteristic it is a result of the other 4, probably something having to do with physical properties.

um... a mineral is a naturally occuring inorganic crystaline solid with a specific chemical composition (more or less). this has been the same for as long as i can remember *which is not very long*....
