In order for a team to qualify for a Monday Night Football game, they must be a potential playoff contender, have a well-known rivalry with another team that warrants the national spotlight, have had a winning record, or have a significant following (read: big media market). The game has to have some sort of national interest, and the potential to grab high ratings as there is about $15-20 million invested per Monday Night Football game from ESPN.

It's just how the schedule is written up. The Chicago Bears haven't had any Monday night football games for a few years and this season, they have two. Detroit will have some eventually. It has nothing to do with how good of a team you are. Hell, this week the Packers played on Monda night and they suck.

Competitive teams are only scheduled to play Monday night football. The Lions haven't had a winning season in a while and haven't made any drastic improvements in the front office or personel....So they get no Monday Night Football.

Detroit plays football? MNF is supposed to be a showcase for the best teams from the last season. The only way the Lions would fit would be as somebody's whipping boy,

Because they are an awful team and have been an awful team for a long time now.
Soon as they get their act together, I am sure they will be scheduled into monday night football games again in the future.

You have to be good to play when the whole world is watching. Same as why the Lions don't play in the SuperBowl.

if your from detroit im sorry, but they suck. you might find detroit tigers on a monday nite but not the tigers. detroit football is boring, unless they are playing the chicago bears.

Bad for ratings...nobody wants to watch a team that can't compete against good teams. That, plus the fan base probably plays a little role in it...but I don't know about that one.

Because for the last 40+ years, they go to sleep Sunday at noon and don't wake up until Tuesday morning.
