A dog can hear sounds we can't, other animals have similar ultra-sensory skills for seeing in dark and picking up what goes unnoticed by us....So do you think that there are things such as new colors and smells that we can't even imagine out there...? It would be really strange if one day scientists invent an instrument that finds out we've been living around these "invisable" things all our life...right in front of our faces

Yeah there are things that we can't sense. I think you almost have your finger on it. A human is very limited in what he/she senses and you may notice that with electromagnetic radiation we can only detect "visible" light. We can only hear certain frequencies of sound, etc.

Scientists have come up with machines that can detect these things, i.e. infra red sensors, metal detectors, RADAR. etc.

I think there are other things that we haven't discovered yet, but also some amazing things you may not know about: like antiparticles. Antiparticles are particles of matter that have equal mass but opposite charge to "existing" particles. When these two particles collide they can relesase high energy photons which I think have some relation to the effect of Atom bombs...

There may not be many more things left to find on earth that are big enough to touch, but there are many things that we cannot sense with our current sensors. Maybe some people have a slight sensitivity to certain things that haven't yet been discovered (like psychics) but it's very hard to comprehend what allows somebody to predict the future or sense the afterlife...

I hope this helps.

Even though we cannot sense a lot of things that are happening around us, we have machines that can sense these things and convert that data into something that we can sense.

For example, electro magnetic waves are zooming past us all of the time, and yet we do not notice them (and thank goodness that we can't else we would go mad with all of that noise!)

Scientists are very familiar with electro magnetic waves, and so we have machines that can detect that. However, there are other things that are more difficult to detect. Certain cosmic particles that can pass right through the entire Earth without hitting anything.

If you are thinking about ghosts, well, I don't believe that there are any.

We are limited by the abilities of our senses. Dogs for example live in a world with a kalaidescope of smells. Many creatures have senses which exceed the limitations of humans so we adapt by building machines to compensate for our inabilities.
I personally an glad my sense of smell is not that keen. Imagine you could smell a panhandler 100 yard before he approached you.

Yes. Life is so fast now a days it is hard to slow down. People now just arent tuned in. I definitely think there are things we cant sense.

Great Q:

I think humans are an animal of absolutes. If we can't touch it, taste it, smell it or hear it, it's not real. (save for god, for those who have faith)...

There is so much beyond our reach, beyond our comprehension...so much we could learn & experience if we just open our eyes just a little wider...

Silly human

That is true. Maybe that will happen one day. That would be fun, don't you think?
