My friend thinks he can walk on to a Division I-A football team because he is fast even though he only played football for one year and that was back in 8th grade. What do you think?

He better have God Like abilities.............Each Division 1 University has 85 scholarships a year (unless they have an NCAA violation or 2) and those scholarships go to the cream of the crop of high school football players. So, in order for a walk-on to play, he would practically have to walk on water

Tell your buddy that its not just about being fast. He has to have quick feet, a low center of gravity, and the ability to take/give a hit. If he hasnt played since 8th grade, he will need to refreshen up on his football terminology. ie - cover 1,2,3,4, a/b gaps, zone blocking schemes, and basic football down/distance situational knowledge. How much does he weigh, b/c he's gonna get hit hard and he better have a strong neck!! Besides 4.4-4.5 is really not that fast. Unless he weighs more than 225lbs. Hope that helps good luck!

Not likely, but anything is possible. He might be able to walk on to the practice squad, but with so many good players out there that have been in the game for ten and twelve years at that point, I think it very unlikely.

He might want to try out for the track and field team instead.

LOL....your friend is a dreamer. He honestly wouldn't stand a chance in hell. This is from a former 2 year all-state selection, played 2 years of college ball before a knee injury ended things for me. Tell him to go for it, give it a try but realize that everyone he meets will be former high school all-stars from across the country. His 1 year of experience......lol....need I say more?

Stranger things have happened. If he is a natural it may happen. If he knows how to tackle and has relentless pursuit skills than he may make it. But if he has no feel for the game of football and is just fast than its a long shot.
