okay, this is a broad range as you did not list a price.so if i was you, the best car for the buck, is a 2000 Honda Civic Si, dont dawg on it cause its a honda, THIS CAR IS FAST STOCK.the 2000 Honda civic Si, comes factory stock with a B16 engine, that means you will have around 160Hp-180Hp to play around with. Not only are they fast but they do look nice.i must note: These cars are RARE to buy.i would perfere a 5-speed tranny, as it will go easy on the gas.not sure about the exact mileage, but i believe its around 30-35 MPG, if you go easy on it.these cars do run for about $10,000.00, if you can find one, but if you do, you will be pretty popular.

Stay away from most american cars, as the "affordable" ones generally suck. Unless youre picking up a corvette, they break down easily. If you want japanese, go with a honda. As a younger guy that would be the best on gas, cheapest to fix, and the coolest of the three. Good luck friend.

My son is in the 11th grade and we bought him a 2000 Nissan Maxima. Great on gas mileage. If you get an older one you can forgo the collision insurance.

A Ford Taurus is very affordable, dependable, and gets great gas mileage. They made millions of these , so the resale on a 2 yr. old Taurus is about half of what it cost new. Just a thought.

foreign cars are good on gas and generally affordable used, but if something breaks it costs more to fix, a used ford is pretty affordable and generally easy to fix.

Go for an older honda or toyota. They are affordable.
They will run forever and are still "cool" and acceptable..
Good Luck..
