The only ones that call us that are those directly to the south of us. Just remember where it is coming from. Most of them can't help but be a little "challenged" because of all the inbreeding. I mean, look at who they voted in as President? If that doesn't prove my point, I don't know what would.

Besides, being as they're our SOUTHERN neighbours, it just means the only view they have of us is up our butts! (A perfect place for them.)

Sometimes I feel a little annoyed at people's ignorance. I agree with most of the answerers, that this is not a typical statement from our southern neighbours. There are ignorant people everywhere, so those who say that (if they are Americans) are simply ignorant Americans.
It's interesting that Canada is one of the top 3 countries desired by aspiring refugees.
Canada is not just a lot of snow and ice. We have beaches, we swim in lakes, rivers and in the ocean, we have heat waves, people sometimes die of heat strokes... not that I put such a high premium on heat.
We have large cities, people who live in Canada or who visit Canada can choose between city life or the seashore, or mountains, forest, etc. Take your pick!
I spent a year in the South of Texas, and it was fine too. But my preference is still Canada by far.
If someone prefers their own country that's fine, what is sad is the ignorance some people show.
Those who make the kind of remark you mentioned possibly aren't even sure where Canada is! (Someone on the phone, answering a Canadian telemarketer, asked where Canada was. The telemarketer said: You know where North Dakota is? - Yes. _ Well, Canada is north of North Dakota. - 'There ain't nuthin' north of North Dakota!' That kind of ignorance is not at all typical American. However it is typical of those who will run down our country.

I live in NCarolina and have never heard a negative thing about Canada. Indeed, all I have ever heard has been positive.

In our neighboring state, S. Carolina, one week each spring is dedicated specifically to snowbirds from Canada coming to Myrtle Beach.

They are very pleasant here in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. I've lived in all these states and - again - have always respected them. I just wish that all of North America was just one country. I don't care what it is called. The United States of Fred would be fine with me.

although it is hurtful I have to understand that their views are their own and everyone is entitled to their own views.
with that said I feel sorry for them because they will never see the true beauty of my country and they are very scared of things different from what they know.
Canada is a wonderful place that has many diverse cultures and people with in our country and for the most part all live in harmony, a lot of people from other country's do not have the freedom to live that way because of their short sited views.

Usually these are the same people that don't think about where their water, energy (both oil and hydroelectric), wood and minerals come from too...

...Don't feel hurt, just feel sorry for their ignorance.

I feel sorry for the Canadians. It's not just us inbred Americans that do it though. I've heard the inbred English, inbred Scottish, Inbred Welsh, and inbred Australians say it too.

Poor Canadians. What did they ever do to deserve such insults? Er, aside from deciding to colonize the third most frozen and vast wilderness on the earth? Wy don't we pick on siberians for a while, after all, they've got the bomb too... Or did...
