Who told you that school bus drivers can't make more than $700 per month? That's obviously not true. My father-in-law is a school bus driver, and he makes far more than that...

To those that think it is easy to drive a school bus... just try it sometime!
Drivers are responsible for making sure the bus is mechanically sound before and during each and every trip. That is the easy part.
If you think it's difficult to drive with your own children in your personal vehicle at times try it w/72 or more children that are not your own! Talk about driving while distracted!!!!!! The driver must be aware of what is going on in the bus at all times even though the bus has been designed (for safety reasons) in such a way that makes it difficult. In this day and age you would be appalled at what goes on behind those seat backs that the driver cannot see. That's not mentioning the students that entertain themselves by jumping over seats or across the isle, picking on other students, fighting, and, shouting. Little ones crying because so-and-so won't let them see a toy or they scream (and you are startled) because they have something as minor as a pin prick and want a bandaid. How many students have been forced on the bus by parents as the child cries because their stomach hurts only to throw up or poop all over themselves on the way to school. What great fun!
Maintaining order can be difficult because many parents do not respect the drivers and the children in turn follow suit. It is very hard to get children to co-operate when they look at you as if they are better than you because of parental attitude. Little do they know there are many of us who are retired executives with very good educations. The students know we cannot discipline them and it is the drivers word against theirs what happened. Of course, many of the parents don't think their children could ever do such things!
The driver must keep up with all federal, state and local regulations. They must be constantly alert to traffic and road conditions as well as any thing suspicious or unusual that might put the child at risk along they way. Aggressive drivers abound and make the the pick-up, transport, and drop of students very risky. The noise can be overwhelming and make it impossible to hear emergency vehicles.
Drivers are ultimately responsible for the behavior and safe transport of everyone of the students on the bus. And this is not easy by a long shot. What I have stated here is very simplified but gives some idea of what we deal with every day. Once again, do you really think it is easy? Think about it.
Why don't drivers make more? Could be location. If jobs are scarce there will be many more people willing to do the job for less pay. In my area it's the reverse, our district is finding out that people are not willing to drive bus. Our community mostly consists of professional people. There isn't enough incentive in the form compensation to draw people from elsewhere to drive for 2-2 1/2 in the morning leave and come back for 2 - 3 hours in the afternoon. If you figure the price of gas it's barely worth it.

They can only make what money is available to them, that's been allocated to their local government's budget. This should be agreed on, before the driver gets behind the wheel for the first time. if you don't like it, call your local legislator, school board, tv news reporter or complain to the editor of the city
newspaper.

basically because the schools aren't given enough money to operate on now days, they barely can operate ,they sure cant afford to pay the drivers more money, especially where i live here in Tennessee, they barely make minimum wage and that's a shame, but that's big government for you waste,,waste,,waste,,that's all they seem to be good at these days, good luck i hope this help,s.

Sounds like great pay , plus they have insurance too.
What about these folks that work really hard and barely make half of what a busdriver makes.
And their jobs have no insurance, alot of restaurants, etc.

Supply and demand.
The job requires very little specialized skills, therefore many people can do it.
