Introspective means to be focused on one's own thoughts and ideas... so this means that even though someone is focused on their own thoughts it doesn't mean they cannot hear or understand what is going on in the world around them.

seems to mean that they are shy(introspective) and don't "stand out"among people(walk among the shadows),they can hear what people may be saying about them.

i think what it means is that you gossip.....that person can hear what your saying about them even when they aren't outspoken. and introspective means that they think.
