no they don't...
they don't have the time, man power, cost, etc to do this
however, if you were wanted by the Feds, they can tap directly into a PC if they wanted to, but they would require the info of the IP address and/or the court order to do so
special circumstances of a court order not required if say for instance they wanted to catch pedophiles on a web chat site

What you see on TV and Movies where a Government employee types in a few keystrokes and has your entire life and history on the screen is only Hollywood make believe.
Will it be like Hollywood depicts in the future? I believe it will, but, not anytime soon. Even after the new laws, passed after 9//11, requiring the Department Of Homeland Security to link the computers of all it's agencies, very little has been accomplished. Government Agencies and departments are like little Fiefdoms. The people that run and work in these agencies perceive this kind of linking as losing their power and control. They constantly do whatever is necessary to prevent and delay the implementation of laws like this.
The FBI, ATF, Secret Service and Marshalls Service still don't communicate openly with each other 5 yrs after 9/11. The NSA, CIA, FBI, and all the Military Intelligence agencies do not share their info. They are all fighting to keep the power and little Fiefdoms intact.
The information that Hollywood shows can be collected on a person is true. The Government can get it. It just takes months to years and lots of court orders to do it.
As long as we have people in Government, that perceive Cooperation as a loss of Power and Control, the Hollywood version of information gathering will remain what it is, "Fiction".

Well, you've just answered your own question haven't you?
Naturally, the very logistics of the "government officials" seeing everything that you type would be too much to compute. Besides, why should they? Not to mention, due to the privacy laws, they'd also need a Court Order to be able to monitor anybody and the Court sure ain't gonna give them one for no reason!? Only the FBI or CIA could possibly do that, but then, with a Court Order.
Hope this clarifies matters.
Cheers

No they don't.
Some people still don't use the internet.
And if you didn't use the internet, they would have to break into your home to see what was on your computer.
