This normally varies with the difficulty of the songs & the speed of the songs. For me, here's the rough estimate of calories burned per song as measured using workout mode using full songs (personal experience).

Light / Basic = 10 Cals / Song
Normal / Trick = 20 Cals / Song
Heavy / Maniac = 30 Cals / Song

Note: This is based on Singles. Doubles mode increases calories burned by at least 50%

Since you can play about 20-30 songs per hour, you can start doing the math. If you play for 3 hours on Normal Single at the rate of 20 songs per hour... It would be roughly 1200 Calories burned.

Since 1 pound of fat has 3500 Calories, you've burned roughly 1/3 of a pound. This would equate to 2 1/3 pounds of weight loss per week, assuming that you haven't changed your diet or other activities.

Please be aware that all figures here are an estimate & will vary from person to person... Most likely I'm being conservative with my figures as it may not include the upper-body actions you do (be it artistic or for balance).

So Dance Dance Reduce your weight with DDR! ^_^

Well, if you played SSR (Maniac/Heavy) and Another (Trick/Standard), you would. But, it depends solely on the stepchart.

Take PSM for example. It has a hard SSR stepchart. Long stream, barely any freeze. Same with MAX 300.

But play an easy song like, say, Gambol, about 2.356 KCals will be burnt.

You can try Oni songs as well.

Dancing is good exercise... as long as it's a cardiovascular workout (meaning it gets your heart rate up) then you should lose weight/gain muscle if you stick to it. It's kinda similar to aerobics.

3 hours seems a bit excessive though... maybe 30 min to an hour. 90 min max.

well you might lose weight. but probably not. you would probably gain weight because when fat turns into muscle it weighs more. muscle always weighs more so you would gain some if you got good enough.
