Pet care places like Petco carry spray for fleas. The one you want is usually labeled for application to the dog, but look around at all of them . The chemical that you want as the main ingredient is Pyrethrin. Buy enough to spray the whole floor of the house at once. Do that. Leave the house for at least 4-5 hours as the stuff gives off a nasty odor. Kills all fleas and eggs on contact. The fleas you see are adults and will die very soon. It is the eggs you want to kill. A repeat spray may be a good idea after a week. The fleas are on a three week cycle if I remember correctly. Hope this helps

I will tell you what a vet told my mother about fleas and also what she use to do to keep them at bay.
First of all...everytime you vaccum you need to empty the contents outside. If you don't..any fleas you picked up can and will come back out of the vaccum cleaner if you don't empty it.
Flea bombs help kill the hatched fleas..but it doesn't really do anything to the eggs...regardless of what the label says on the cans. Flea eggs can lay dormant for years in carpeting and hatch when conditions are right again.
If you have pets you need to get them treated for fleas, many products out there, and a vet can give you something that you can give your pets on a monthly basis to help keep the fleas off your pets.
Fleas from outside can come in on you as well..disgusting thought but true.
They can also make their own way into your house without the help of a host.
What mom use to do was go to garden center and buy something called Malathion. She would spray all the door ways and window sills. And she would also put a light amount in a carpet shampooer and do the entire house.
You can also spray around the outside of your home with this as well.
I have to warn you though..this stuff doesn't have a pleasant smell so you will have to remove yourself and any pets for a few hours and then air out the house fairly well afterwards.
It's also a good idea to brush your pets everyday outside as well...this helps to dislodge any fleas that may be on them although if you have them treated that shouldn't be a big problem.
After you get the first treatment done with all this..if you keep you house vacuumed frequently and empty it immediately outside you should be able to keep the little critters down.
The only other way to get rid of them would be to rip out your old ccarpeting and start fresh with all possible preventative measures right away.
From what the vet told my mom..once you have them in the carpeting...it's almost impossible to be rid of them completely..the only thing you can do is to keep on top of them with some of the things she does and hope for the best.
You could also consider putting in laminate flooring instead of carpeting...gives the fleas alot less places to hide and breed and lay eggs and much easier to care for.

Have ALL your pets flea dipped, then apply a topical flea treatment like frontline from your vet. (frontline works best, is expensive, but works great and when you are dealing with fleas... the quicker you get rid of them the happier you will be) While your pets are getting dipped, BOMB the house with a fogger. *plz follow direction completely and shut off any natural gas valves* If you are going to clean the carpet.. do it BEFORE your bomb the house, so the chemical stays on the carpet as long as possible. Put a flea collar on all your pets, AND buy one to put in your vacuum cleaner to kill any live fleas you suck up when vacumming. You can also buy flea killer carpet powder, put it down, let it sit for awhile, the vacuum. you will still need to wash and spray all pet bedding. Fleas are a major pain, I thought we were done with them last year... but the vet says they have hit this area hard just w/in the last month. Here we go again! ARGGGGG. good luck

Yes, I have one. Rather, my Vet does. And I paid him $310 for it, and a simple check-up. It's very logical. He prescribes two medications. One is taken weekly, the other monthly. Did you know that a flea's lifespan is only 18 days? That significantly contributes to this method's success. One of these medications kills all adult fleas on the dog. At the same time, there are also eggs and larvae in your carpet and yard. The second medication is specifically designed to sterilize any flea that bites your dog, immediately. That flea will never reproduce. The ones that weren't killed by the initial treatment, or sterilized by the second, will die within 18 days anyway. This treatment continues for a couple of months, to be certain of its effectiveness. It's worth the $310 to be rid of them forever. By the way, we have two small dogs. It would probably be 1/2 price if you just have one. Also, a portion of that amount was for our new dog's initial check-up. So you're looking at about $125 if you just have one dog and no other needs.

Seven Dust at least 5%, use powder on carpet around doors inside and out and all over lawn and pine straw as well. If you no small children you want to leave powder down on rugs for two(2) weeks, that will take care of next hatching's as well. Remove any pet sleeping articles and wash or treat with flea spray. If you have squirrel problems they can also carry loads of them , if they get into attic you will want to treat that area as well, then try to bar any entrance for them to get into. Seven dust is save on both dogs and cats even cattle and horses. If you spread it around good and resist the urge to sweep it up IT WILL WORK.

SALT!! in the carpet... don't vacuum. Leave the salt.. It makes them blow up when they eat the salt.
But start with a flea bomb first, one where you leave.
Make sure your animals are well protected with more than just a collar too!
Not sure about outside, Try Seven! available at Wally World!!
