Watching Cast Away again with Tom Hanks and the scence with the rubbing sticks came on. I just want to know can you really make fire rubbing two sticks together? How hard is it to learn? Are there any tricks to mastering this art?

Yes! Heat generated by the friction of the wood can catch kindling on fire. Rub your hands together, are they getting warm? Same thing happens with wood, except you do it much longer and it gets alot hotter.

Yes. Just need a lot of patience and FRICTION. Friction produces heat, an increase in temperature. Fire is produced by a dramatical change in temperature. So you just need time for the heat between the two sticks to rise and you have now fire.

you need dried out bamboo. you put flammable stuff on the ground, like paper or something. the you spin the dried stick on your palms. spin it really fast while pressing it down, soon, you'll have smoke and get your paper to burn. but be sure to add more when its burning. then add wood. it takes a long time, but at least you made your own fire

i think you would need a spark from the rubbing of stones, and a wooden splinter.
