Fast-paced and hectic. Filled with opportunities. Expensive. Noisy. Crazy. Wonderful. Lots of people. Police sirens at night.

You either love it or hate it. Try it. You can always move back.

Well, New York City is a really great place. It's always busy, and no matter where you live (from SoHo to the oh-so-safe Upper East side) there's always something to do at any hour of the day. As much as you'd think you'd get lost in the masses in New York, it's actually very easy to run into people you know. It's not so easy to find a job and rent is very expensive. So is grocery shopping, but you could take the subway to Queens for cheaper food if you wanted to. There are tons of opportunities and it can be a very social place if you want that sort of thing. Culturally, there is so much New York has to offer. There are galleries, poetry slams, concerts, etc. And one good thing about New York is that there is a lot that you can do for free. So it balances out the rent. If you're settled, it's a great place to move because it has some of the best schools in the world and great parks. Life in the city is lively, and it is also very entertaining. Take the subway and you'll see all kinds of people. Some say that the city is too fast-paced, but the rhythm is something you get used to after a while.

Once a country kid, always a country kid !!! If you do move to the city and it depends on what city. Be sure to keep the home in the country. Because there will come a day, when you will move out of the city. Our city is a large, beautiful city, with an interstate running right through it. First of all the river is contaminated and when we fish, we throw them back into the river. The interstate roadway, is heavely traveled and the cars whiz by , causing lots of dust . Our vehicles are always dusty. High cost of housing and utilities. Routine of re cyling. . Then comes the Human part. Most people are wonderful and sometimes when you smile at them , they will smile back. Lots of crime. Un-fortunately , you have to put your knowledge and wisdom into high gear. It is all up to you on how you will survive. Your the one who makes the choices. An old saying is: If you lay down with dogs, you will get fleas. So choose the right way and you'lll do Great !!!

Hectic. The best way to describe it is watching a puppy chase its tail. Lots of activity and going nowhere.
There are plenty of lights, noise and pollution, it takes a long time to get anywhere with the traffic. You can spend a whole day being stuck there.
Move to the city to try it. Why not. You might even like the anonymity and the immense variety of entertainment.

some small town guys learn to love the city life. It is a lot of pressure and stress, but there are always things to do.

Others try it, then start saving money to buy a retirement place in a small town.

It is definitely a case of different strokes for different folks.

I remember in 1962 I moved from an isolated farm to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It used to wake me in the night when I heard footsteps on the sidewalk outside, because on the farm no one walked near you. After while, of course, I adapted.

Now that I am retired, I spend most of my time in the mountains of Mexico. At night we hear the dogs; the burros; and the coyotes. I love it.

I spent my childhood in the country and have moved here (to London) for uni. As a student, it's the greatest place to be. Leaving a close knit community, with all that goes into that, has been a challenging but very rewarding experience. You'll get to know what you're capable of.
