You'd probably be better off talking to your doctor about which is best for you- different women are suited to different types of birth control. I like the pill though. Few side effects, and I still menstruate so you know for sure it's working (ie., you're not pregnant!).
Ask your doctor though, they'll know more about you and what will suit you best.

They all pretty much work the same. It is really up to you and what you are most comfortable with. I have taken the pill for 7 years and it has been very reliable. You do have to take it at the same time every day. If you forget it of course is not as effective. If you are forgetful you may want to go with one of the other forms that last for a week ...i.e. the patch. Really depends on your lifestyle and what you have time for.
Oh yes and no matter what birth control you are on be sure to use a back up....condoms are always good.

I started out on the patch, but then switched to the pill because the patch made my skin break out where it was and looked bad, and also now they've found the risk of getting blood clots is higher with the patch than the pill.
So I would recommend the pill as long as you wouldn't have a problem remembering them. I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo since about Feburary and haven't really noticed any side effects.
And I don't know too much about other forms of birth control.

Okay, yes abstinence is 100% effective, but I'm assuming that's not what your after.
You might like to talk to your GP about this, he/she should be able to recommend something. The pill by injection can work well, and you don't have to remember to take a pill the same time everyday. Implanon (pill implant in your upper arm) is better, it last longer and, if you have side effects it can be removed.
If you really want to avoid getting pregnant but still enjo sex, try one of the pill alternatives, teamed up with spermicides - if your really worried, add a condom into the mix. See what your partner is willing to try.

I would use Pill. I don't know how effective the patch is. Probably the same. Sometimes the pill doesn't work. I do know that all it does is give you a little extra of a hormone you already have. it makes your body think it's pregnant therefore stops the period flow. Side effects are weightgain or weightloss. It may even give you a loss of sexual desire. More side effects-nausea, headaches, urinary tract infection, depression, changes in blood pressure..... a lot. Use a condom also. It helps decrease the risk of pregnancy and stds.

ok. im 20, and this is wayy funny. All these people telling you to abstain, and Obviously you Aren't planning on that, otherwise you would not be here asking. Now, at least you are going at this in a smart and Responsible manner, getting on BC.
I've been active for 6mo.
And, ONE bf the whole time :)
Now, i have been on the patch, for one year, it started acting up, giving me a yucky rash everywhere i would adhere it...so i stopped that one 2months back. What happened to me was fairly rare, my skin just finally did Not like the adhesive.
I would try the patch if i were you. It is sooo simple to start with...you wear one a week on the same day..for three weeks then have ONE week off [your cycle week--] and that's all. IT is fairly low cost [or NO cost, if you go to **in the states, to Planned Parenthood**]
o. and there are nearly No side effects. [yayy.]
hope this helps.

The only method that is 100 % effective with no harmful side effects is abstinence.
Having said that, this is really a question best answered by your dr or his nurse. It depends a lot on the regularity of your cycle and your family history. Talk to them before you make any decisions.
Blessed be,
Gypsy

the best form of birth control is abstinence.....but if you must get it...then i would recommend the nuva ring. you wear for three weeks and take it out for a week. There are not missing pills, no weight gain, no real side effects. This is the only thing i would take for now on.

If children are a long time off for your future, go with the IUD.
I have the Paraguard IUD, lasts 10 years and I don't have to worry about. No hormones, no prescriptions, and almost no side effects. I found when I first got it, that cramps were strong, but as time went on the cramps went away. Plus there is no snap decisions on becoming pregnant- you really have to plan it.

The best form of birth control is an aspirin ...... held tightly between the knees. Side effects? Leg cramps.
