One-on-one instruction is the best method to learning to play guitar, but if you can't go that avenue, buy a guitar chord book having basic music theory.

Should you have a friend or acquaintance that can play, let that person show the correct way you should form your basic chords and provide tips in rhythm and tempo. Start out with simple songs you enjoy--those having three or four chords only.

After that, it's hours of practice every day.

I believe you can buy a guitar from QVC that hada a CD and a diagram that goes on the neck of the guitar and it teaches you step by step. Go to their website and type in guitar. Good luck.

for the basic technique's best to find a guitarist, but there are many (HENDRIX ETC) who didn't follow formal guitar technique,
so if you just want to play, get an understanding of music, and work it out for yourself, there are many good books to teach yourself guitar, but if you want to play good guitar, the only answer is to plactice and keep practicing, hours behind the instrument is the only thing to make you good,

the best way to learn guitar is to have someone teach you and watch and listen.

u need to take lessons for at least a couple of months if u wanna be a decent player and know how to read music. i know people that have "self taught" and they don't even know what a G chord is. and if u wanna use more than two fingers i strongly suggest shopping around for lessons. don't get frustrated your first couple of weeks. your not gonna be bustin' out songs right away just keep practicing and listen to your instructor.
