I can only think what was told to the people of the City of New York following the World Trade Center Disaster that the air was safe. . .and five years later, we see that they were misinformed.

Ok. It was not an explosion at a Chemical factory but a fire and explosion at a hazardous waste disposal facility. By hazardous waste we mean many items and chemicals that we come in contact with on a day to day basis such as paints, solvents, batteries etc. The fire caused a release of "hazardous gasses". From the news reports there was a rainstorm shortly after the release. The rain will have caused any suspended particles to precipitate, thus improving air quality. Any winds present will also have helped dissipate any fumes. Whereas it always better not to have any such releases, we are talking about airborne chemical particles in the open air quickly abated by a rainshower. It is important to note that although these products are hazardous they are not classed as toxic or radioactive.

I know I'd be giving a sample of the ash on my property to a private lab for testing before I decided to move back home. "The people.." you are refering to is the EPA which is full of Republican Appointments---HMNNN---the lawsuits for the 9/11 air quality conditions and statements are just underway.
