The red light that comes on is for the homelink system. You can set to up to open your garage door, and for the satellite system for the emergency assistance services..

I don't have a red one on mine, but just a small amber one. I spent months researching what this mysterious light is. The answer I get is that it's an "ambiance light' so that you are not totally in the dark when there's no lighting at all from outside the car. It's small but it has a good reach. Try resting your hand on the centre console directly under the light in complete darkness, and you will see the light shinning on your hand

Open that little [paperback] book in the glove box...Call your dealer and ask? You can read the owners hand book in 90 minutes and find out a lot about your new car. I put tabs on pages or book marks to go back to. Write down info like when and where you bought it key numbers oil filter numbers and fan belt numbers in the notes pages. Keep this car ten years!

Maybe its one of those sensors that tell whether or not something is in the way. Kinda like a garage door has on it so it wont close when someones under it. Other than that i have no clue. Check the manual.
