Right now I have Comcast home networking and of course a comcast router. Oh my God, it is so expensive. We really need to save money, so if we went with Verizon DSL, would we still be able to get a router from Verizon or would we have to go out to Best Buy and buy one to go with a cable modem? <
--I just know its cheaper but we have 4 computers in tha house so we definetly need a router. Sry if this is confusing.

You'll probably have to buy your own router. Wireless router is probably the way to go. I was pricing some today and they range from $40- $100 depending on what you want. You will have to buy the adapters for each computer (ranging from $30-$50 per machine). This however is a one time cost and the equipment is yours, so if you decide later that you want to go with other broadband services, you wont have to change any equipment.

Good Luck

Get a router off of ebay for seriously discounted prices. Anything from Netgear, Linksys, or D-Link should do. Also, the technology hasn't changed much in the past few years, so you can presumably get an older router from like 2003 or later and still be working good.

Personally, I just switched to AT&T DSL from Comcast and it's just as fast for my purposes. Comcast was WAY too expensive and I'm enjoying paying less now for the same benefit. Also, FYI, I have a Linksys WRTG54 Wireless Router that I've had since mid 2004 and it works impeccably.

Cheers,

Verizon provides you with a modem/router in one device. My Verizon service stinks! I only get 568 Mbps, because this is an old neighborhood, with old wiring. They are using fiber optics on the newly built housing projects. My Verizon costs about $17.99 per month. The cable /router costs $99, but they "give it" to you for half price as part of the plan!

Verizon support personnel are not trained to help you with set up problems, unless you use their product which is a versalink 327.

If you go out and buy a Linksys or Netgear product, the support, will not be there for you!

usually ISPs will give you a modem and nothing else... but either way, you can go to Best Buy and get yourself a good router, either a Linksys or a Netgear for not much... and well the price depends on what you buy and if you go with cables or wireless, but with cables its definetly cheaper. just went to BB website and the prices vary between 50-80$ but its something you only buy once so... its worth it !

Yes, do it. Get the router yourself at wherever. After the initial cost, it isn't so bad.'
